“To have what others don’t, to be better at what others have, to master what others are good at, to innovate what others have mastered.”
The pandemic in the past two years have given our school a huge challenge and change. The only thing that remains the same is our spirit of “placing the child as our core, placing the child as our priority” to continue to serve the parents and children in our community with comprehensive, multi-dimensional, and quality education. Our school can fulfil this duty with the support of a wonderful team. Their professionalism, efforts, love for students, and endless devotion is why our students can have loving and diverse learning.
“Learning corners” is one of the key teaching methodologies we adopt. It allows the child to freely choose, explore, and play by themselves. From the child’s point of view, learning corner can nurture their proactiveness, enhance the development of language, social skills, motor skills, etc. Simultaneously, from the teacher’s point of view, it allows them to take a step back from direct teaching to imparting knowledge through the learning environment, placement of teaching materials, activity content and format. Our teachers observe students during the activities, analyze the results, and make adjustments accordingly. The education function of learning corners is demonstrated through the contents, different materials teach different things as well as inspire various gaming behaviors and innovative thinking. Whilst creating the learning corner materials, I often remind the staff of the basic principles: safety, learning goals, fun level, feasibility, flexibility, level adjustments, and durability. Taking the K1 activity design for the New Year Fair as an example. The aim is to allow students to recognize the job of a cashier and successfully read the cashier’s name. The children are first put into groups to discuss a cashier’s job after which they have to share and present their thoughts, with the teacher making the final conclusions. Children are innately curious and hungry for knowledge. If teachers can make use of a child’s daily life and surrounding environment in designing learning activities, it can not only strengthen the child’s recognition of things in their everyday lives, but also develop relevant life skills.
Here, I would like to represent our team to give a big thank you to our parents for your continued support and praise. I have been awarded the Outstanding Administrator Award 優異行政人員獎 from the 5th Excellent Educational Administrator Reward Scheme 第五屆卓越教育行政人員獎勵計劃 organized by the Hong Kong Council for Educational Administration. This award does not simply acknowledge my educational administrative beliefs, learning experiences, and our school’s outstanding performance, it also acknowledges our school’s uniqueness in the industry and how it is worthy of reference for other schools. Just as my personal education motto states: “To have what others don’t, to be better at what others have, to master what others are good at, to innovate what others have mastered”. I hope our school will reach higher heights.
